“I grew up in this area and returned to my roots to give back to these communities,” Ruiz explained. “I’m very close to my family and friends here, so this has been an opportunity for me to spend more time with them.  I believe a gym like this helps communities and children.  We’ve created a developmental gym in a competitive environment where members learn how to box, wrestle, or get mixed martial arts training. Quietman Sports Gym also gives kids a positive place to go, just like I had, providing them an invaluable alternative to running the streets. There are so many bad temptations today for kids and many of them only need a safe, positive place to go.  We’re providing that to help youngsters develop self-esteem and character.”

Ruiz is also a boxing and MMA promoter – professional and amateur – who will soon be promoting shows throughout New England.

“I’ve been fortunate to have had so many memorable times through boxing,” Ruiz added, “and I really want to pass along my experiences and what I’ve learned.”

The only Latino World Heavyweight Champion in boxing history, Ruiz had a 44-9-1 (30 KOs) professional career record, fighting all over the world, in a dozen world championships.
